What’s going in NYC?

I Love NY.JPGI'm more than just fucking pissed off a little puzzled and annoyed over  the people in NYC who have had to endure a  week without electricity.  What the hell is going on?  Around 100 000 people have had to endure a whole week without one of the most basic necessities on earth.  Can you imagine being without power for a week with your children and family?  What the hell do parents with small children do? To see this happening in the United States, and in the financial capital of the world, is more embarrassing than most people realize.  The rest of the world is laughing at the  mightiest country on earth where  people are unable to turn on the light in there apartment.  This happens all the time in places like Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka.  But in New York City, the greatest city in the world?

I still consider NYC to be "my" city.  Me and my wife  haven't lived there for a few years but might go back when the kids get a bit older.  We lived there for many years and loved every minute of it.  The town is just amazing. Just ask Pierre.   But how can a power outage go on for a week without a good reason? How can the most advanced country on earth be using more than 100% of their electric power at any point?  Where is the safety margin?    And the most puzzling question, how can anyone be surprised that the weather is hot?  Even the dumbest person can figure out that it will get hot every year.  I've never been though a year in the U.S. when there wasn't a few heat waves or winter storms.  I have no problems with power outages during  disasters.  A sudden hurricane, wildfires, or an earthquake can cause severe  problems to the most solid and best prepared country. But warm weather?  Some periods will be a little warmer or cooler than the previous year but there are no earth shattering differences.  It reminds me of people in colder countries who are surprised every year over the difficult driving conditions after a snowfall.  It happens every year but people are still surprised.  Power blackouts have been going on for years in the U.S. and it seems like people haven't learned anything. It's dangerous, not fair to the people,  and a sign of a dysfunctional society.  The world was shocked to see that the U.S. government didn't give a crap about New Orleans and wouldn't help the people.  Constant power failures is not  a confidence booster for a country that is already fighting a steep uphill battle in worldwide public opinions.  The world is really laughing at NYC and their embarrassing third world country problems.

The U.S. is capable of impressive things, some good and some bad.  Launch a space shuttle, have NSA listen to every phone call on earth, produce enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth 100 times over, fight a war in Iraq at a cost of $1 Billion a week (or is it per day?), take some incredible pictures of outer space with the Hubble telescope,  and have mega-rich billionaires donate their life savings to help others. But electricity for residential areas is obviously too much to ask for.  Does anyone see a problems with priorities?  This is no Bush bashing or an attempt to take a political side.  At some point people will have to wake up and realize that this can't go on. Regardless if democrats or republicans are in power. How about we make some small changes?  Let's give everyone electricity 365 days a year and give all school children in U.S a decent meal once a day.  Those are small changes and must be desirable to everyone?  If the people in charge want to go really crazy and make a real impact on people they  would  provide health care and a good education to everyone.  Something that should be a given to any successful country.  Will this ever happen?  I really hope I live to see it.

Sorry about the rant.  It pisses me off to see this awesome city get fucked face stupid problems.

Have a nice week ahead!

  1. It has been utterly amazing that they haven’t been able to get it figured out and repaired in a timely manner. I read an article in the paper (WSJ I think) that discussed the horribly old and outdated national power grids and how they are too taxed. Yet, it would cost probably trillions of dollars to update it.

Hope you and your wife are well. Here’s to a quick delivery!
