Weekend Photo - The Alps Of Italy

The little town of Cervinia is one of many idyllic alp locations in Italy.  What they all have in common is postcard views, fantastic after-ski, lots of snow, fantastic food, and tons of small cozy family owned hotels. Summers are also nice with unbelievable mountain bike rides, rock climbing, and trekking.  Foxy Wife isn't too crazy about skiing but we've done a few trips to the alps and it's always a nice time.  That's a nice thing about Europe, there are an amazing amount of great places to choose from.  Jump on the plane for a couple of hours and large parts of Europe are reachable.

U.S. is also large and has  many great places but it's still different.  Wherever you go, the culture is still the same even though the landscape changes.  In Europe, flying for an hour means kind of a new world.  New languages, different foods, and other cultures.  I wish more Americans would take the opportunity to travel more, it's a very fun and educational experience.  I've been trying to convince my family about the same benefits but they just thing I'm crazy.  They have no idea what they're missing.

The timbered house in the picture is located in the middle of the slopes, high up in the alps, and a perfect place to stop for a (long) break.  A few beers, some nice Italian wine, spicy sausages, tasty cheeses, and homemade pasta while seeing nothing but blue skies and stunning mountains is hard to beat.

  1. I did most of my travel in Europe 5-10 years ago when it was more economical for Americans. I went to the French alps last year and was shocked at how expensive it was (besides the fact that the US dollar is weak to the Euro right now). I just had my first baby last month, and I’d love to show her Europe someday, but I’ll have to see. We were going to go to Germany this fall for Oktoberfest, but we just changed plans to go to Peru instead because it was cheaper (and on our travel to-do list anyway).

I agree with you about how nice it is to quickly change your experience/culture/langauge in Europe. America is limited that way, but at least for me, living on the Gulf of Mexico (in New Orleans) I can fly anywhere in Mexico or Central America/Caribbean within an hour :-)

  2. Hallo Hakan,
we have just returned yesterday evening after ten days in Zermatt for Skiing. Have you been to Cervinia last week? That’s a shame, we could have come over to do some skiing together and have some beer and italian food.
    Best regards
    Robert
