Sweden has a small population and most of the country basically consists of rivers, lakes, forest, and small mountains.  It's a beautiful place.  If you want to kick it up a notch or two then you head to Norway where you will be met by beautiful views anywhere you look.  We spent a week in the Norwegian mountains at the end of last summer.  The country is simply amazing and a great experience if you're visiting northern Europe.  You can find pictures and travel essays at the bottom of the page.

 

Gudbrandsdalen is a valley in the northern part of Norway, a few hours north of the capital Oslo.   It's a valley filled with small towns/villages and stunning views in all directions.  Our destination was the little village of Gålå where we spent a week in a cabin with our son and our mountain bikes.  Norway a is a great place for winter adventures.  The Olympic Games where held in Lillehammer (an hour from Gålå) in 1994 and they whole nation loves skiing.  Because of the great landscape, summers are also a great time to visit.  Hiking and biking in the many mountains is a favorite activity for the Norwegian people.

 

We love to include our kids in our adventures, in Norway our daughter was not yet born, so our son Daniel was of course present.  Me and the wife took turns doing more extreme solo bike rides in the mountains while the other played with  Daniel.  A few days we also rode with him in the bike seat, something that I've talked about before.  It's a great way to have fun and exercise with your child(ren).  The mountains of Norway are almost too relaxing, wife was missing people towards the end of our week.  I guess me and son just aren't fun enough….
