Have you ever been to the alps?  If the answer is no, you have something to do before you die.  A while back we spent a week in St. Anton, Austria.  One of the best well known ski places in the world.  They've got pretty much everything you might want on a vacation.  Great skiing, unreal views in every direction, gorgeous weather, fabulous after ski and night life, and proximity to some of Europe's large cities.  Did I mention the freaking unbelievable views?

As you can see in the photo, even Mexicans can ski!!  Sandra  picked up skiing very easily since she's strong and athletic.  She's not a great skier but she can still come down a double diamond slope (not fast, but safely).  The great thing about the alps is that you can have a great time even if you're not a ski bum and live for skiing.  We're not ski bums and don't go skiing very often.  But it's something magical about those postcard views in every direction that make me relax and think about the good things in life.  If you don't want to ski the whole day, bring a book (or your laptop) and stop at one of the many restaurants in the slopes.  Have a few drinks, eat some excellent food, read  a book, and enjoy the stunning views.

The weather is great during the spring and you there's no problem sitting in the slopes in a bikini top or just a tshirt.  Something that comes in handy during after-ski.  I've never seen anything like the St. Anton after-ski scene.  The huge party starts  around 3 in the afternoon, sometimes earlier, and stops when you want to.  After a day of skiing it's a great feeling to take off the heavy boots, kick back with a few strong drinks, and check out the hot women  magical landscape of the alps.

If Austria is not really your thing may I suggest the alps of Dolomite, Italy.  Like the mountain town of Cortina. These alps are even more stunning.  Alps are great both in summer and winter.  Winter of course for skiing and summers  for trekking and mountainbiking.  Same great views, just with a little bit less snow.  There is nothing like climbing some rock in the morning, going for a mountain bike ride in the afternoon and finish off with a first class Italian dinner at night.  Don't forget to try some of their fantastic wines.

  1. I’ve always been terrified of skiing , I have enough trouble not falling over when I’m just walking around. I’d love to go to the alps just to go sledging though, we haven’t had any decent snow in England for a long time and I really miss it.
