The person closest to Daniel besides me and Sandra is for sure her mother, Guadalupe. She's always spent lots of time with us even though she has sometimes lived a continent away. When Daniel was born, she spent three months in Sweden. Last year she spent a month here. And when Annika was born she spent almost three months with us again. In between that we've spent a few months in Mexico, always with her by our side since she's very close to Sandra and loves Daniel very much. It's weird having her around because it's so easy. I've never heard of a guy being able to have his MIL around for more than a week without wanting to kill her. But with Lupita there are rarely any issues. She manages to work a lot around the house, way too much, but still stay invisible. Do you know how difficult that is? I always have to tell her to sit down, have a rest, and pour her a glass of wine. That's the only way to make Lupita stop working, by threatening her softly. She spends early morning to evening with Daniel, always coming up with great games. And if she has a choice of doing something for herself or being with Daniel, it's always Daniel. They are indeed very close. When Annika was born she did a tremendous amount of work, helped us stay sane, and gave Daniel a chance of slowly getting used to his sister. That's probably one of the reasons why he loves her so much and has been nothing but friendly and gentle with Annika so far. Lupita carried Annika all day long, which is easier said than done. The first two months she was constantly crying because of reflux and a mild case of colic. Without her we probably would have gone completely crazy.
Oh that’s great to hear that Abuela Lupita is so fabulous! Grandma Katy (Chhimi’s mom) is also like that, she would do anything for Erik. But since she’s in NY right now, we’re experiencing what its like to be just the three of us. So far so good. Even though its a bit tough to do everything and spend time with Erik, we’re a bit more “independent”.
