Update - Raising Tri-Lingual Children
As you might know we're raising our kids to speak three languages. Raising tri-lingual kids is not that common and we do get lots of interesting questions. Overall it's a process that requires little extra effort, yields great advantages for the children, but also means somewhat slower verbal development.
Last week I wrote a post over on The Blogfathers with some thoughts on our tri-lingual adventure. Our son is now 4 years old and our daughter is getting closer to the 18-month mark. In the past year we've seen a huge leap in verbal development for our son but our daughter still speak little little. If you're thinking about speaking more than one language with your children or simply think it's interesting (or stupid) to use three languages, head on over to The Blogfathers to see what you can expect.

Hey AD,
My nephew is 21 months now. He lives in Malaysia where most people speak at least 2 languages. He is spoken to most often in English and Mandarin. But I don’t think there is the one-language-one-parent pattern. And it is working out as well. I noticed that most of the time whatever is said is repeated in both languages.
He says a few words, but clearly understands us. What is interesting is that he will say things in whichever language he finds easier. It’s quite cute :)
I look forward to your updates.
Thanks for visiting my site, AD. My eldest is the same as yours. Nice to read similar experience from your family.
We’re going to move to Munich next month … German will join the crowds :D.
