Update 2 - World Championships In Tennis
The hot weather continues and is of course great news to myself and my physically strong team. The tournament is almost over and in the last couple of days we've had another two nice wins. On Thursday we humiliated our strong rivals Finland. On Friday it was time to face Canada in our last match and it turned out to be a fairly easy win.
The tournament has been great, I'm going home undefeated. Feels very good to have won all my matches. Wins standing out are against Spain and Argentina. Especially Argentina since I was not feeling great but still wore out my opponent and made him cramp during a 3.15 hour match in blistering heat.
We played a great tournament but it started off very poorly. Two days before our departure, our fourth team member backed out. He's a very good player, this was a tough mental blow which we did overcome. But, had he been here, we would not have lost to Spain and we would have been competing for positions 1-4 instead of placing number 9. In the whole tournament we only lost one singles and one doubles match. And we beat the number 6 seeded Argentinian team 3-0. It shows we're far better than our messed up official placement.
I must tip my hat to my awesome team mates Kenneth and Martin. They are professional and know what they're doing. We've not had a single issue or disagreement during the past ten days. I feel a little bad for Kenneth who has only been "allowed" to play doubles. Me and Martin have played great but I think Kenneth should have played a couple of singles. I'm sure he would have done fine.
Sweden - Finland 3-0:
Sweden and Finland are huge rivals in every sport. It doesn't mater if a tem places last in the tournament, important thing is to beat Finland. I beat a very hard hitting Finn 6-0 6-3 in a strange match. I got a bit nervous towards the end and my opponent almost caught up.
Martin played great as usual and won easily 6-2 6-0. I pulled a groin muscle but felt better after treatment by a trainer. I won doubles with Kenneth in three sets, 6-2 2-6 6-3.
Sweden - Canada 3-0:
Our final mach of the tournament was quite easy against a nice Canadian team. I won easily 6-1 6-0 after destroying my opponent. He played similar to me and I was able to rally from the baseline until he didn't have the power to run any longer. A fun win for Iron Man:-))
Martin was leading 6-4 3-0 when his opponent retired for some reason. Doubles mach was given to us since it was meaningless. It was a great feeling knowing the tournament was over. We headed straight to the bar and celebrated with a few cold beers.
The evening was finished of by a huge gala dinner for 1000 people at the giant pool area. The Turkish really know how to plan these events, it was nicely done and we had a great time.
