Timing is everything
My timing is often pretty good. Throughout my sports career things often fell in the right place and my job timing is crucial. Difference in timing at my current job means a significant difference in profits. By significant I mean in the millions per day or week and we do tons of deals every day. And the difference in timing is often small. Certainly not weeks. Or days. Occasionally hours. Often minutes. Most often the difference between shit and success can be measured in seconds. So throughout my life I have gotten used to having good timing. But my last post was awful timing.
The baby seem to be doing fine but we had a bit of a scare. By the way, he/she is referred to as "Tanditas" until we come up with a name. Long story but the name involves a long trip we took to the jungles of Borneo (outside Malaysia in case you wonder) and lots of happy memories. Twelve hours after I wrote the last post about the stork we were in a bit of trouble. Sandra felt tired at night and went to bed early. She woke me up at 5 AM and told me she was bleeding. And bleeding quite a bit. We agreed on waiting until Daniel woke up and see how things felt. They were not good. To complicate things I had to go to work and my parents were due to arrive for a week long visit in about an hour. We had already told kindergarten Daniel would be off for the day so we brought him with us to the emergency room. Going to the hospital rarely invoke happy thoughts but they hospital took great care of us.
Visiting the emergency room usually means long waits unless you are about to die. But the hospital we go to now seem to be ultra efficient. They’ve got a special unit for kids and the staff is very friendly. After checking in we were referred to the emergency unit for women where we only waited for a few minutes before being taken care of. Being at hospital with a 22 month old full of energy is kind of a challenge. So much new stuff and so many areas to explore. We talked to a nurse and did some tests before being examined by a doctor. As soon as there was a moment of waiting time Daniel pulled me away to explore the hospital. His favorite is as usual elevators. He’s fascinated by them. He loves to push the buttons and go up and down. I think he could do this a whole day. The hospital is ten stores high and you can look out the window as you ride. He simply loved it. The city looks beautiful at the moment. We are covered by ten inches of fluffy white snow so the views are nice. Daniel was constantly pointing out the window saying "is!!!" (ice or snow in Swedish)
Back to the doctor. The exam was quick and brought good news. According to him the baby seem to be doing just fine and by this time the bleeding had stopped. We are currently in week ten which of course is very early in the pregnancy. But he could see the heart ticking on the ultra sound which was new for us. During the last routine visit it was too early to see much of anything anything. We were both relieved by the good news as I took Sandra home and headed to work. Total time at the hospital including exams was an hour and a half which we thought was great.
So the year is starting off with some challenges but everything looks good. Sandra’s stomach is already HUGE. Well, perhaps not huge but certainly a lot larger than during her last pregnancy. She’s just in week ten and her stomach looks like month five. It looks so cute!
Have a great weekend everyone

That’s so scary. I’m glad everything’s okay and the hospital looked after you all so well.
*fingers crossed that the rest of her pregnancy goes easily*
That must have been so scary…I’m very glad to hear all is well. It’s probably good to get the jitters over early so you can both start to concentrate on creating another beautiful healthy little baby….
Good luck & thanks for sharing
Glad to hear everything is fine. How scary that must have been.
Best of luck to you and the wife!

[…] After reading the headline you might believe that we already gave birth to a baby-girl. Close but not quite correct. We went for the official 18 week checkup today and according to the doctors we are having a little girl! Everything looks good and we are very happy about that since we did have some issues early on in the pregnancy. We counted two feet, two hands, and most of the other stuff seems to be in the right place so we are keeping our fingers crossed. You can of course clearly see in the photo that we're having a girl (yeah right). I usually have some serious problems seeing ANYTHING on those ultrasounds but this time I could actually see a baby and not a radar screen of the latest winter storm from Weather Channel. […]

[…] Living in Sweden during the winters can be depressing. It's cold and very dark. Sandra can handle the cold but doesn't like the darkness and I can't blame her. Combining a cold winter with being pregnant has led her to be a bit depressed. She really doesn't enjoy being pregnant. Our last pregnancy was great and she didn't have any bleedings or morning sickness. This time around Sandra has felt nauseas for at least a couple of months and we also had that scary bleeding in her stomach. Everything now looks good and the doctor's are calling it a "normal pregnancy". But the bleeding has forced Sandra to cease all kind of activity since December. That may not sound like a big deal but when you have been active and used to working out your whole life it's difficult. Her body is used to training and when she's unable to do this weird things happen to the mind and body. […]

[…] Daniel is doing fine after our scare last week when he almost choked to death. It was a weird and unexpected incident but the positive thing is that we now know what to do if a child is choking. In December I wrote a few lines about Daniel's preference for his dad. Back then he was sooooo into daddy, mommy was barely noticed. This continued for several months and increased because of Sandra's stomach bleeding and her inability to carry or play much with Daniel. Between November and March, Daniel strongly favored me and wanted me to be involved in every little thing in his life. This was flattering and also showed me that my many months at home on parental leave and deep involvement in Daniels life had a very positive impact. But it was also difficult and exhausting since I have a very demanding and stressful job. The Pappitis decreased after March when Sandra's bleeding disappeared and she once again got more involved in our son's activities. But the Pappitis has now re-appeared and I'm once again the popular person in the household. […]
