Stuff I Clicked On Week Of Jan. 22
A few articles and posts I found interesting during last week. And unbelievably not one single link to the iPhone:
It Bothers Me That I Have To Go - Donald Crowdis : Don is 93 years old and a blogger. He talks candidly about how he doesn't want to leave this world because he still has so many things left to experience. A short, emotional, and powerful read.
Top Ten Magic Trick Tutorial Videos - Everything Interesting : I enjoy seeing how some magic tricks are done. Good and quick tutorials. Click here if you want to see how David Copperfield can fly. Shown through detailed computer animation.
State Inmates Outlive People On Outside - Seattle Pi : State inmates, especially minorities, live longer in prison than outside. Does anyone except me find this trend absurd and fucked up? It costs a fortune to keep people in prison, we're spending much more money in this are than on education for our children.
Why I Escort - Daily Kos : A fascinating story about a person who helps out as an escort at abortion clinics. It's apparently a problem for many women to perform a legal abortion without being harassed and physically intimidated or hurt. I personally think it's scary how crazy many of the "protesters" seem to be.
Beckham Becomes Role Model As Men Find Fatherhood Cool - New Zealand Herald : It's old news that one of the most famous soccer players on earth, David Beckham, is moving to LA to play soccer during the next five years. The short article talks about his good influence on the fatherhood role but how many fathers still spend virtually no time with their children. The article looks at a Japanese father and his fatherhood role. Seems extremely far away from family balance.
Seven Questions:The international Breastmilk Project - Foreign Policy : A first time mother from the Midwest decided to send her excess breastmilk to needing mothers in Africa. This quickly turned into a international project. Brilliant initiative, I can't believe I haven't heard of this before.
Azzam The American, The Making Of An Al Qaeda Homegrown - The New Yorker : A long article about how an American from a good family turned into a key Al Qaeda person. The author offer convincing research that shatters many stereotypes of how someone becomes a terrorist. Most are from good families and the changes in personality occurs voluntarily without brainwash or other forces. A must read of you're interested in understanding other people and not only want to be fed the CNN bullshit.
R.I School Bans Talking At Lunch - AP : Doesn't it seem a bit harsh to ban young students from talking at lunch? Only whispering allowed.
Possum #1 makes Us Proud - Atheist In A Minivan : A young student writes a fantastic story about Christmas and what it should really be about. The mother of the child is an atheist and the teacher mentions that the student can't be as well since her "ability to care for others feelings isn't an atheist trait." Is this what people really believe? You can't be an atheist and a good person? I don't care if the girl is an atheist or not, she seems to be more mature than most adults and has literary talent that dwarfs a majority of writers.
