Today we have yet another unbelievable story of sexual abuse with perversion and mental deviation so far off the chart one must wonder if there is something in the water making people in Austria go crazy. Pedophile hangouts like Belgium and Netherlands are bad but Austria seems to have even larger problems. How can you otherwise explain a father locking his young daughter in the basement for 24 years, abusing her sexually since age 11, forcing her to give birth to 7 children, and letting three of those stay in darkness their whole lives?
Some years ago Belgium had a huge pedophile scandal that never seemed to end. Despite hundreds of thousands of people marching on the streets of pedophile friendly Belgium no politician seemed to care about convicting Marc Dutroux who raped, kidnapped, sold, and abused little girls with support from influential people. It took over 8 years to convict him despite a mountain of evidence. People wondered why it took so long to put an end to this case. Reason was many "higher ups" were themselves involved in pedophile activities. It was big business. What a lovely place Belgium is, pedophiles are protected by the people who are supposed to police it.
Then we have Netherlands, who has a political party wanting to make sex with young children legal.
…that there is nothing wrong with pedophilia or bestiality, the latter of which is legal in the Netherlands, as long as the child or the animal involved, demonstrate consent.
The PNVD party is currently lobbying to change Dutch law that would lower the age for children to grant sexual consent from 16 to 12.. The party would eventually like to see all age of consent laws eliminated.
Freedom of expression is great but I find an organized political effort to legalize sex with young children slightly disturbing to say the least.
Germany is not much better. We have the woman who killed 8 (!) of her babies and buried them in flower pots and a fish tank in the house.
But Austria makes the other deviants seem like boy scouts. A year ago we had the case of Natascha who was kidnapped at age 10 and held captive in yet another basement for 8 years while being sexually abused. Now we have an additional case of such unbelievable perversion and sickness that one must wonder what is going on in Austria. What's wrong with Austrian society? Sexual abuse unfortunately occurs in many countries around the world, I guess sexually abusing an 11 year old daughter is no longer front page stuff. But imagine locking her in the basement for 24 years.
A quarter century without sunlight. Can you imagine a father doing this? And on top of this forcing a daughter to have 7 children, leaving three of them down in the darkness while raising three others like normal adopted children in the house. The oldest child locked in the basement was 19 years old. He went 19 years without seeing sunlight. I think I will barf.
People must have known about this horror and kept it quiet. No one can keep such a big secret for so long without suspicion. The wife of the sicko father claims she knew nothing, she's either lying or one of the most stupid women alive. The three children who were adopted and raised upstairs in the house were all "dropped off as babies outside the door one day". That's what social workers, police, hospital, and friends were told. The chance that someone drops off a baby outside your door is pretty slim to say the least, what are the chances that three babies are left for you during several years?! Police, authorities, and people in general are obviously incredibly stupid and incompetent to believe something like this. Why did we need another case of basement horror to wake up Austrian society? Common sense is a good tool, how come it's not used in Austria?
I know pedophilia occurs but is very rare despite what papers want us to believe. But what we're seeing is just not "normal". What's with the infatuation of keeping girls in Austrian basements? And what's with the strange and horrible abuse? This country filled with beautiful alps will never be the same. I will never be able to look at those magnificent snow covered peaks again without thinking of what's wrong with Austrian society. What happened?
This is sick. The man should be hanged without any questions asked. I can’t believe this happened in such beautiful country like Austria!!
OMG, I think I just vomitted in my mouth. That is the worse case I have ever heard of.
What the heck would a 12-16 year old know about consenting to sex?!?! They’re are sooo many stories of rape and molestation that go untold because they felt like they deserved it. How are we suppose to let them decide such a crucial and fine line? It’s one thing when it’s a 16 year old with a 16 year old but with an adult?
This is sooo disturbing. I really hope that they don’t pass laws like that. It’s like encouraging molestors and rapists to have their way with our children.
Wow. I’m so sorry for those kids.
I think the challenge for me is how we can talk about these problems in our societies without making the problems so public and so commonplace that people begin to accept them as a normal part of life.
Truely heartbreaking. I got that bad lump in the back of my throat after reading this. I can’t beleive a country would want to pass a law like that. So sad.
Sick. Poor kids, the ones locked up and the ones ‘left at doorstep’.

I am fed up by slick posters and Austrians trying to smoothen the horror by implying pedophiles exist everywhere.True.But the rot here is obviously with the Austrian society who likes to sweep such crimes under the carpet and pretend it did not occur.
Pedophiles and rapists elsewhere are prosecuted and locked away. Pedophiles and rapists in Austria( and also Belgium, Holland and Germany)are protected by the state apparently through wish-wash laws.In addition the public seems to accept it in their stride.

I’m an ex-pat from the US living and teaching English in Poland.
This story has been plastering the news non-stop in Europe. People are universally outraged, just as you are. I believe many Austrians feel the same way, too.
But… keep in mind NAMBLA exists perfectly legally in the US and Canada. How concerned are we about protecting children if our legal system allows and defends [sic] them?
Perfectly proper and well raised people can do horrible things. I’m sure Himmer would have given up his seat to a little old lady on the bus…
