Norway – More riding and exciting tractors

norway-biketopofslope.jpgThe Adventure family was tired today as well but how can we possibly resist a smiling, great smelling toddler waking us up?  I took Daniel in the morning and Sandra went for a bike ride.  She went pretty much the same direction I did the day before and had a great ride.  The only problem was a group of large cows blocking her way.  Daniel and me had some more close encounters with the sheep but not as close as the last time.  After a while I saw a large tractor pass by that I had seen it before.  Since I know a tractor working is Daniel’s wet dream we tried to find where it went. We struck gold. Turns out they are building some more cabins nearby and the tractor we followed was working on the roads and transporting gravel.  We parked  and watched the tractor load all the gravel onto another truck, then head up the hill and come back some minutes later to take on another load.  Daniel was in heaven.  He was pointing and babbling very excitedly.  I don’t really understand why he’s so excited and fascinated by trucks and tractors.  We have not done much to encourage it.  After about an hour we’ve had enough and it was time for lunch.  Sandra came back from her ride in a good mod and without problems.

norway-bikewaterfall.jpgIn the afternoon we switched duties and I went for a ride.  I went by a lake, Jetningen, and found some technical single-track.  It was narrow walking rails and they should not be called single-track, they were much more narrow.  More like half single-track.  It was a bit of a struggle in places but the trail cleared and I was biking over a small waterfall.  On the way home I climbed a couple of ski slopes, got a good workout and some decent photos. The whole ride took about three hours without stopping for anything but photos.

norway-danieltractor.jpgIt’s very easy to explore this area without getting lost.  The maps they’ve got are decent but are not really necessary.  Just decide what general direction you want to go, or a destination, and then go for it.  There are so many trails here.  Some are on swamps and not accessible by bike, only on cross country skies in the winer, but most trails are doable if you know how to bike.  At every trail crossing they got these great signs which mentions different trails and how far you got left.  It’s virtually impossible to get lost.  Gålå is a great place for explorers in eh summer and in the winter it must be incredible

norway-signs.jpgSome days offer very challenging weather for photos here in the mountains.  The forest is dark green and the sky is almost white.  Since most cameras only can handle about five stops difference in the exposure it means either the sky or the forest will be correctly exposed.  Often it’s possible with something in between but the photos don’t look that great.  One good option is to simply crop the sky to get rid of the problem or change the sky into another color.    Cropping is by far the easier option and that’s usually what we end up doing.  You can then change levels, curves and contrast in Photoshop and make the photo look great.
