New York, New York

I was browsing through some of our vast photo collection last night and got stuck in the NYC section.  We lived there for many years and loved every minute of it.  We didn’t take as many photos as we should have although we got quite a few hanging framed on our walls.  Living in Sweden is perfect for us at the moment so i don’t miss it much.  But we did have an awful lot of good times……   We still go back there a couple of times a year for vacation and  might go  back to live there again in a few years but nothing has been decided.  It would be cool to once again live in  the official  city of MetroDad:-)

About half the year we would wake up and look out over the East River and see nothing more than shadows of the buildings and a blood red sky.  It was a pretty inspiring  sight. Especially since we had lots of windows in the apartment and an unobstructed view.   My office was in midtown on the 42nd floor with an amazing view. We had the whole floor which meant beautiful  views of the East River and an almost unobstructed view south.  That was always great except during 9/11. We would sometimes stay at work a little longer, open up a bottle of wine and just enjoy the view before we headed out to some restaurant.  Here are a couple of early morning and evening photos.  What can I say, NYC is an amazing town:

  1. Incredible pictures.

  2. Maybe I’m biased (of course I am) but I’ve always thought that NYC has the most beautiful skyline in the world (Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur) are close seconds. Every time I leave the country and return to JFK, I always have the driver go through the Midtown Tunnel. If I’m lucky, the sun will just be setting over the skyline. You can have the mountains or the sea, give me a great city skyline every time!

    Great photos.

  3. Lovely pictures. Thanks for visiting me!

  4. Great photos! I never got bored looking at the skyline as I drove I-95 or flew into Newark.

  5. I grew up in the bush. Moutains, bush, closest neighbour was about 3 kms away.
Now, I hate big city’s, went to sydney last year for busniess, hated it. My brother lives in Melbourne, hate the city but love the food and the shopping.

I live in brisbane which is a city, (1.5 million people) but still has that big country town feel about it, so that’s not too bad.

When we went to the states two years ago, I wasn’t quite sure what I would think of the city’s there. I loved the national parks, Yosamite, yellowstone, grand tetons…..all rocked. But New York, it changed the way I looked at big cities. I loved New York, it was a really great town.

I would love to live there for a year or so when the kids are a little older. It’s got a buzz and a hubub to it that you can’t help but taken away with.

Plus there are some of the coolest buildings in the world there! So yeah I agree, NY is an amazing town.

  6. You really had a nice view from your apartment, ours kept getting blocked by the buildings on 97th street.
