New Arrival in Germany

We got some good news. Mathias and Bärbel in Munich just got a little baby girl. Her name is Hannah. She was actually born a few weeks ago but since our German friends are a bit technically handicapped we got no photos until now:-)) I first met Mathias in 1991 when I was playing professional tennis in the German tennis league and we hit it off immediately. I spent five summers playing in the lovely town of Muenster and had lots of fun. I’m pretty sure we both got lots of fun memories from that period of our lives. Of course we can’t remember all of it because most events involved a ridiculous amount of German beer. As you might know, the Germans do know how to drink properly.
After looking at the photos I have already established something obvious. This is not Mathias baby. She’s way too cute. Apparently their mailman is a real hunk so I have told Mathias to discreetly do a DNA test:-) They both seem to be handling the new arrival well. Mathias has come up with an interesting strategy though. After the first week he left for a ten day trip to NYC. A work trip. He says:-)
We wish them well and hope they don’t freak out too much in the next few months.
Well,
it took me some time to reply to my friend’s little column but I had to wait for the results of the DNA test. Much to Hakan’s surprise I have the pleasure to announce that this cute little girl is indeed my daughter. At least that’s what the DNA report says after I discreetly passed a considerable amount of extra cash to the scientist.
As Hakan points out the two of us go back quite some time. My recollection is that he almost always kicked by bud on the court and I could only beat him playing darts at 4am in the basement of my parents house and in return he had to carry me on bis back through the woods in the middle of the night. Don’t know whether we had a few beers that night but chances are that drinks were involved at same stage.
Anyway, Hakan and his wife are great friends ever since even though we do not get to see eachother very often. Unfortunately we still haven’t seen their sweet little boy Daniel yet but I am very confident that we can bring our families together some time next year.
