My 20-Month Old Can Read

My 20-Month Old Can Read

Exciting things are happening in the AdventureDad household.  My daughter is making great progress, not only has she learned how to read cute picture books and make duck noises, she can apparently read blogs as well.  I can draw no other conclusion after what happened since my post about living with ADHD like behavior.

My daughter has been incredibly demanding but I don't want to make a big fuss of it since she's after all healthy.  She just has an incredible amount of energy in that little body. Add to that no patience, she even hates to snuggle.  At least until my post one month ago.  Since then  nice things have happened.

I've never heard of a 19 month old who hasn't snuggled.  It's pretty weird.  But until recently, I've been unable to sit her down on my knees, hold her in my lap, or rest her head against my shoulder for more than 10 seconds unless she was dead tired.

One might wonder if I know my daughter well enough, have we really spent enough time together? I think 6 months of paternity leave and spending 24/7 with each other rules out that theory.  I  might smell bad occasionally after a hard workout but overall I'm not too disgusting.  I don't really know what her problem is since this has happened to Foxy Wife as well.  It's really weird.  It's like she's in a hurry to do other things and don't have time to snuggle or sit down for a minute.

It's a good thing me and Foxy Wife both are very fit because a little girl acting this way is very hard work.  I doubt she actually read my ADHD post but perhaps she was sensing my desperation and decided to give me a break.  During the past weeks she has been sitting down in my lap for minutes at the time, not made a fuss about being strapped into the car seat, and actually sat still on the couch with her brother for several minutes.  It's like a gift from God.

Kids are much about the larger issues but it's nice getting a hug every now and then.  My daughter is coming around, now I just need to get Foxy Wife to give me a hug:-)

  1. My middle child was like that, she hated being held and snuggled as an infant, even to be put to sleep. She too is real active. I think she was almost 2 before she would actually stop and sit with us.

  2. Thats GREAT!! They do come around eventually!! My son even as a infant hated his car seat and me and my husband both had to hold him to strap him up and he gave up sitting in a stroller and shopping cart before he turned 2. Its hard when they are super active.
