Dear Daniel,

You are approaching 22 months of age and time is going by faster than ever.  I know you are still a small toddler but it feels like you are growing up fast.  These past months have meant  dramatic gains in your vocabulary.  It’s still fairly limited but we know  it’s not easy to learn three languages at once.  Much of what you say still sounds like Klingon but at least some of it is making sense. Give it some time and you will feel at home in any country in the world.  Your fascination with cars, trucks, and trains continues and is now stronger than ever.  "Bil" (car) is the first word in the morning and the last one at night.  It will be a privilege to share my little car collection from my childhood with you in the near future.

It has been a busy month with some major events.  Some you have noticed, like Daddy’s torn calf muscle and your new Snow Racer, and some you have no idea about.  At least not yet.   Lately you have shown an incredible preference for your Daddy which I really appreciate even though it has been hard work.  It’s not easy carrying you at the same time as I’m walking on crutches.  I love the extra attention and hope it lasts forever, or at least for a long time, but I’m sure Mommy and Daddy will be equally popular soon. 

I don’t know what special ingredient Mommy had in your breast milk the first year but it sure worked out well.  You have been sick less than any kid we know.  Who ever heard about a kid not missing a day at kindergarten in four months because of sickness?  You must have some trick you’re not telling us yet.  Do you know that your cousin Jens, who is roughly your age, only had three days in total at kindergarten last month?  Lets prey our luck continues. 

I’ve saved the best  for last.  Perhaps you wondered why Mommy didn’t pick you up when my leg wasn’t working?  It was a good reason for that.  She was not supposed to lift anything heavy.  Why? Because you will soon be the oldest kid in the household (except Daddy of course).  What am I talking about?  YOU ARE ABOUT TO BECOME A BIG BROTHER!!!!!!!!  That’s right, Mommy is pregnant and if all goes well you will get a little sister of brother next year.  It’s still early but we hope everything goes well.   It’s obvious that you will be an incredible big brother.  We see every day how gentle you are with your friends, how you share all your toys, and how excited you are when you see a little baby.  Or as you call it, a little "nenna".  If our next child is even half as easy, gentle, and happy as you it will still be incredible.
