Monthly Update : Daniel 20 months old
Dear Daniel,
We got another great month behind us. Your performance at kindergarten is outstanding and it seems like the girls flock around you. I wish I had that problem when I was young. Or when I got old. It must be that great smile of yours. Your favorite playmate of the month is definitely Camilla, your new Hispanic friend. Actually, her parents are a mix of Finland and Venezuela so I’m not sure that qualifies as Latin. She’s one great friend of yours and you get along great. To see you two hug, kiss, and hold hands is just soooooo cute. But I’m not sure we will be invited over to her place any more. The toy laptop she borrowed from you a few days ago is apparently driving her mother crazy and she now even uses is when she eats. That little laptop has more buttons than the space shuttle and can play more melodies and sounds than a synthesizer. Klara and Maya are also fighting for your attention. They are great kids with awesome parents and we are lucky you got such great friends at school.
Your vocabulary is improving slowly and you’ve got a cute mix of Swedish and Spanish words. Favorite word of the month is without doubt "wow vow" which stands for dog. Or apparently anything that looks remotely like a larger animal. We have seen lots of dogs this month. The neighbors cat is of course called "wow wow" and so were every animal at the local farm. The excursion to that farm with your class was one of your highlights this month. You simply love animals. One of these days we will go through the difference between a horse, goat, and a dog but until then I guess they are all "wow wow".
You went to your first theater play this month and it was a huge success. We never imagined you could sit still for that long but you loved every minute of it. It made it even funnier that you were there on your day off from school and ending up meeting your older school friends there on their excursion. Who said theater was only for older kids?
For many months we have made Baby Einstein into a evening ritual. But you are now growing into the more "adult" shows and your favorite so far is definitely Barney and his "Going back to school" DVD. I don’t know what makes it so special but it can be hard to tear you aways from the show. Even Mommy and Daddy have started to sing all those catchy Barney songs. I can’t say we are proud of it but at least you seem to be learning something.
Favorite food of the month is definitely raisins, or what you call "uuuva". Which must be Klingon. That’s definitely a step up from ice cream and cookies with which you had a brief love affair last month. I must say that I’m very impressed by your recent eating habits. You eat mostly by yourself, remove your plate after the meal, rinse it, throw away cans, and then immediately go and wash your hands. Credit to kindergarten for their good work!
We are close to winter and with a little luck we’ll see as much snow as last year. Last winter you barely knew how to stand up and your skills on the sledge were in the beginning stages. But you did love playing in the snow. This year Daddy is looking forward to some hard core playing in the snow. I will get you the coolest and fastest sledge this year and we are gonna ride the crap out of the slopes near our house.
Your behavior this month has been top notch as usual. We must have done good things in our lives to become so lucky. Please don’t become a Satan worshiping serial murderer when you grow up to make up for your first excellent 20 months.
Love Daddy
