Links For The Week Of January 15
Here is a list of some stuff I found funny/interesting/thought provoking during last week. Pay extra attention to the lack of links to the Iphone. Great phone but enough is enough:
Putting Things To Rest - Her Bad Mother : Are things like eating habits and sleep patterns hereditary and when is the right time to realize your child is special but has different preferences than the average baby? Her Bad Mother talks candidly about her struggle challenges with cute, stubborn, nap-less WonderBaby.
A Voice From Gitmo's Darkness - LA Times : A depressive letter from a detainee at Guantanamo.
MySpace Password's Aren't So Dumb - Bruce Schneier : A while back someone got a hold of 34 000 MySpace passwords. Bruce takes a quick look at what passwords are most common and which ones you should skip. Are you using good enough passwords for your accounts?
A Crowded Womb - Daily Mail :A short story about what the new 4D ultrasound scans are capable of. Turns out twin/triplets show each other love already in the womb. Fascinating photos.
Does Early Failure Equal Future Success? - Steve Olson : Do we need to fail in order to succeed? Another thought provoking post by Steve.
Cheat On Your Spouse And Spend Life In Jail - AFP : If you live in Michigan, are married, and have a fling, you can be punished by up to life in jail. "The state's appeals court recently ruled that extramarital flings can be prosecuted as first-degree criminal sexual conduct". Keep you pants zipped up if you live in Michigan!
What $1.2 Trillion Can Buy - New York Times : The current war in Iraq was supposed to cost a maximum of $50 billion. Current estimates are that the tab will actually be somewhere between 1 and 2 trillion dollars. An honest look at some great things we could do if the money was spent differently. Dramatically improved resources in children's education, public health, cancer research, and national security are some ideas. A scary look at what a couple of trillions can buy.
Nightlife guide to LA - MOM 101 : MOM 101 has been asked by Zagat to rate the LA nightlife and gives a depressing hilarious review of her favorite places.
The Medical Benefits Of Being Bi-Lingual - Medical News Today : Not only is an extra language or two a great tool in life but it apparently has other benefits as well. New research by Canadian scientists have found that life long use of two languages can help delay dementia symptoms by 4 years. I speak four languages and we're raising our young son tri-lingually (is that a word?). I hope his brain will remain fresh for a long time but worst case scenario is that he will be speaking three languages fluently by age 4. You can find a few of our personal experiences with a tri-lingual (and sometimes quad-lingual) upbringing here, here, and here.
51% Of Women Are Now Living Without A Spouse - NYT : For the first time more than half of American women are living without a spouse. Is this a new trend? Is it a good or bad thing?

Ha, thanks for the link AD. And for the no spouse article which applies to me too. And of course, what 1.2 trillion can buy. You know, because I’m in the market for a new house.
