Kindergarten update
Daniel has now been at kindergarten for a week. It may sound like quite some time but it’s not that many hours. The school has a comfortable pace for easing the kids into their new environment and there is no rush. For the first couple of days he was only there for an hour and we were both present. We have been given instructions to act "boring" while we are there. This is no problem for me. Boring is a natural state for me. Sandra is trying to act more like me but it’s difficult for her since she’s full of fun. We basically sat on the couch for the first two days and tried to act invisible.
The first day was definitely a shock for Sandra. When we arrived the entrance was full of children crying. Most of them were red in the face, full of tears, and asking for "mamma". Sandra almost started crying even though we didn’t know any of the other kids. Many kids have been away from school on vacation with parents so they have some separation anxiety. Some parents have done some very poor planning and leave their kids for the whole day after only a few days of introduction. I think that’s kind of stupid and irresponsible but that’s of course a choice every parent has to make. Kids handle this massive change of environment very differently. Most cry a lot for mommy but some simply walk in and start playing with the other kids without shedding a tear..
We have now left Daniel for a couple of hours alone and the first day he cried quite a bit. To start with he was outside and then everything was fine. Then Sandra said goodbye to him and left. He was fine for a while but really suffered when he couldn’t find Sandra an hour later. When she picked him Daniel up he was red in the face and had been crying for a while. I guess he got a little bit traumatized because yesterday he was clinging to Sandra more than usual. Since his "teacher" had the day off the kids spent the day in town going to one of the "open preschools" on Östermalm.
Sandra’s family is still here so we don’t want to stay too long at kindergarten since Daniel and Ximena get along great. We are only planning to keep Daniel at kindergarten half-time anyway but this might change if Sandra starts working. She’s very happy not working and I’m not sure this will change. Either way is fine with us. Some time away from Daniel will be great for her even though he’s an angel. It will give her some more time for her blog, workouts, and simply relax. Daniel will surely benefit from meeting some more kids and get to know a new environment.
