It’s a girl!!!

After reading the headline you might believe that we already gave birth to a baby-girl.  Close but not quite correct.  We went for  the official 18 week checkup today and according to the doctors we are having a little girl!  Everything looks good and we are very happy about that since we did have some issues early on in the pregnancy.   We counted two feet, two hands, and most of the other stuff seems to be in the right place so we are keeping our fingers crossed. You can of course clearly see  in the photo that we're having a girl (yeah right). I usually have some serious problems seeing ANYTHING on those ultrasounds but this time I could actually see a  baby and not a radar screen of the latest winter storm from Weather Channel.

We don't care if it's a boy or a girl but want to know simply out of convenience.  Do we only buy pink dresses and dolls or do we go for toy cars and  dark clothing:-))  I'm very excited about our child even though we have far to go and much can still happen.  Before Daniel's birth we were confident and relaxed but there were still sooooo many unknown factors and thoughts about how things would work out.  This time around we know more about the process and are less concerned about practical issues and more looking forward to the personality of our little girl.

Before Daniel was born Sandra spent a month in Mexico while she was 4-5 months pregnant.  She went for regular visits in Mexico and asked her doctor if he could tell if it was a boy or a girl.  He looked at the ultrasounds carefully and told Sandra that he was 95% sure she was having a girl.  The week after that she went to NYC with her mom and bought tons of clothes, mostly pink dresses, for our little girl.  When she got back she visited the doctor again and he looked once again at the ultrasounds.  He got that weird look in his eyes and Sandra thought there was something wrong with the baby.  He finally told her that he had made a little mistake, he was now 100 % sure it was a boy!!  And there we were with a couple of suitcases full of pink dresses…….  So this time we're waiting a little while until we start buying all the pink stuff!!

What about all you other proud parents?  Have you ever been tricked by the doctor or had some other fun ultrasound mishaps?

  1. Congrats, AD! A girl! I can’t wait. She is going to have you wrapped around her little finger!

  2. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I think I got tricked by my Nurse - here in the US — before we actually meet the doctor we met some Nurse (before) the ultrasound - while measuring the baby’s heartbeat - she said 155 beats a minute was on the high side which usually means a girl. I got very excited - a fellow co-worker gave me six bags (Garbage Can Size) worth of PINK PINK cute girl clothes. Low and Behold at the ultrasound - we found out that it was a boy. I was a little down - dont get me wrong — I am psyched about having a boy (due April 2006) — needless to say that co-worker got some pep talk from me. :D

Love your post!! Very insightful. Thanks

  3. Awesome! Just as MD says…it will be no time before she has you wrapped right around her little finger. I know thNut has me pegged. :)

  4. Oh CONGRATS! How exciting! One of each, that’s what I want.

I wasn’t tricked in the ultrasound but my OB kept telling me the baby would be “small”, 7 pounds max. As I am a small woman (and I had been a small baby) I kept hoping for small, but deep down I had a feeling he was going to be bigger. Chance turned out to be 8 1/2 pounds!

  5. Unlimited Music Downloads…

What if you can download unlimited Ipod music and movies at my website….
