Is that your daughter or your wife?

Here’s a funny story for you.  This past weekend Foxy Wife was playing a tennis match and I was up in the stands with Daniel.  Her opponent was around 15 years old but one of the better players in the country.  After a while I realized that her mom was standing next to me.  She  was watching the match closely and looked very nervous.  Then she starts talking to me:

"Are you involved with any of the matches"?

"Yes, the one on  the second court"

"Ahhh OK, so that’s your girl"?

"Yes"

"I see that your daughter is dark skinned.  My daughter is half Swedish since her husband is from Chile.  Where is your daughter from?"

"Ehhh, she’s from Mexico and that’s not my daughter, that’s my wife"

"Oh my God, I’m so sorry….."

For those who don’t know, we have both been playing tennis pretty much our whole lives and played professionally for many years.  We don’t play much competitively any longer but both still maintain a high standard of play.   The mom of the other girl was very embarrassed by her comment but I was totally fine with it.  That means that someone thought my wife looked like a teenager which is a fine compliment when she’s actually 34 years old.  Cool!!   Do I need to tell you how happy she was after the match when I told her about the comment?  And of course she won the match as well.

I guess I could have felt like an old fart but I do have pretty good confidence.  Perhaps I look old but I sure as hell don’t feel old. I’m almost 40 but fitter than 99%of all 20-year olds have ever been.  My hair is falling off fast but that doesn’t bother me at all.  I blame that purely on being married to a somewhat crazy Mexican……

  1. Yeah, I blame my impending baldness on having a somewhat crazy Mexican mother!

  2. I blame muy impending baldness on stress. But I’m fighting it with every tooth and nail. Great story, AD.

  3. I am just blaming my impending baldness on the Mexicans. [said while shaking fist in the air]

    Or maybe the Belgians.

  4. Oh great… congrats to your wife…
