Get Well Ander!

Ander, Daniel, and Nayara on the streets of Mexico CityA couple of days ago I wrote about Atomictumor and his wife's health problems.  She's 29, they've got two young kids,  got the flu, and has been fighting for her life for the past week.  Scary, very scary.  It's of course a coincidence, but we've got a major flu problem in our family as well.  It's not as terrible as Atomictumor, but it's been bad.  Daniel's Mexican cousin, Ander, has been very sick of the flu for the past ten days.  He's three months older than Daniel and normally a high intensity toddler but for the past week he's been stuck in a hospital bed in Mexico City.   The whole family cheered the other day when he was free from fever for the first time in a week.  Despite being pumped full of drugs intravenously.

Ander and Daneil working on their ambulance skillsDaniel, Ander, and his twin sister Nayara usually have a very good time when we see them.  For the past few years we've been spending between a month and two in Mexico and  Daniel always has a nice time at their house with all their cool toys.  Nayara is very calm and cute while Ander tears up any house he visits.  He's one of those  kids who walked before he could actually walk.  He started walking early but didn't quite have the balance to stay upright.  He didn't care.  He just walked full speed and someone constantly had to make sure he didn't fall over or fall down the stairs.  Daniel is much more calm and somewhere in between the two twins in behavior.  They make a good toddler team together.

Ander at Museo del Papalote in Mexico CityAnder's problems started with a regular cold.  He almost recovered, went back to day care, and got sick again.  It happened twice and then things took a turn for the worse.  High fever turned into pneumonia, hospital, and intravenous crap. His parents, Andres and Alonja, took him to the doctor but of course never imagined that he would have to stay in the hospital for several weeks. He's getting better but is far from healthy.  The other day they had to intervene and drain liquid from his lungs which was the lowest part so far of his scary health problems.  To be chained to the hospital bed for weeks when you're normally a healthy toddler full of energy can't be easy. He's handling it the best he can but has been crying a lot. Prognosis is for Ander to stay in the hospital for another two or three weeks before returning home again.  We're keeping our fingers crossed here in Sweden  thinking of you Ander.  Get well soon!  We're coming over there for a month in February and then hope to see the normal half-crazy you have fun with Daniel and Nayara.
