Faced Any Tough Parental Decisions Today?
Every day we face challenges as parents. We often have to make what might seem to be tough decisions although that's rarely reality. It's easy to get stuck in some kind of tunnel vision, where nagging, barfing, or terrible two's might seem like the end of the world. I know, it happens to me as well. But I learned some years ago to at least try to put things into perspective. To briefly change my focus and look past my perceived crisis. Think about it, how many real disaster situations have you faced as a parent? Where it was crucial to make a split second decision or your child would die?
Putting things into perspective often means pain and guilt. It means exposure to other people with dramatic, sad, and tragic stories. Although sometimes there are happy endings. Parents in a German town today got stuck in an apartment building on fire with their nine month old baby. They faced the unimaginable decision of holding on to their son and risk burning to death or throw him from the fourth floor with the hope of someone catching him and themselves burned to death instead. Makes toddler tantrums seem embarrassingly insignificant.
