Entering The Perfect Storm

My wife is leaving for a 10 day trip to Mexico tomorrow. What do I have to look forward to?  Some nice evenings alone with wine and music, lots of workouts, drinks and dinners with friends and a short break from the kids will be nice.  Think again.  My wife is going alone and I'm taking care of the children.

No problem, I've just been on paternity leave for 6 months.  I can handle anything.  But it gets better.  Nearest family is either an 11 drive  or a 15 hour flight away.  I will also need to school my daughter in at day-care next week.  Plus visit a convention this weekend.  And it gets even better.  During the past two nights my daughter also slept like crap and today has a 39.5 degree (103 F) fever. It might be recurring strep, she got  her last antibiotics from the previous one last week. And it gets even better than that.  My wife found out yesterday her passport has expired.  And to top it all off, she also booked her ticket with the wrong last name, my name, not the one in her passport.  So how's your week going?

Edit: And my wife apparently also lost her American Express card a few hours before leaving us…….

Additional edit:  I have to laugh about this but my wife's flight got canceled and she now has to fly to Paris  first and get to Mexico 24 hours late.  This is getting really funny…..

  1. Good luck! It seems like strep throat really going around, even in the States. We just got notification that our kid has to get strep throat culture since there are no symptoms but one of the kids had strep.

  2. Ah damn. It sounds like you are in for a rough start. Hopefully, things will be on the upswing after a couple of days. I will hold my thumbs for you.

  3. Now that’s an adventure! :D

Hope your little girl gets better soon.

  4. Wow. I thought I was the only one with crappy luck. I’ve got one home with a 39.2 fever. Yeah, my thermometer didn’t work right, and I actually had to do the C instead of F.

    Ahhhh … good times.

Good luck with the passport, credit card and perfect storm!

  5. Wow. And I thought I was having a rough time because my cappuccino machine was malfunctioning. Thanks for making me feel better.

Hope your daughter feels better, and you get to have that glass of wine soon!

  6. That sounds like the luck of a Blockhead. You sure we aren’t related?

  7. A good part of your wife’s vacation must have been over by now. So how are you coping?

I can leave my kids with hubby dear and forget about them. He’ll take care fine, but I like to think he wouldn’t take care as well like me :)

There is a popular belief here in the south of India, that the reason for fever could be that the kid misses whoever is not around, if either of the parents are away. Whatever! Hope your daughter is better now. Take care.

  9. […] I know I just spent nearly two weeks alone with two kids but things are fine.  The trip didn't start so well and reactions in Mexico were skeptical to say the least but everything has gone amazingly well. […]
