Don’t look closely at this photo

sthlm-danielbeercarriage2.jpgI know what you must be thinking.  What kind of irresponsible person am I?  Where are my priorities? What’s wrong with the Swedish parents? Relax. The beer is fine.  I was alo concerned but found a good solution.   I first strapped the beer in the carriage and  then figured out what I was going to do with my son.  I’m sure i did what any good father would have done?

We went for a stroll on Saturday to check out a new shopping mall close to our home. Some friends were coming over for dinner in the evening and the beer supply was low.  I picked up a case and put it in the carriage while Sandra walked around the mall with Daniel. I walked through the mall with a case of beer in the stroller and no son.  People were STARING.  And not smiling.

Hot Wife went to the gym and the boys started heading home.  Daniel loves to walk by himself, preferable with his little car "cochecito", but he walks S L O W L Y.  Actually, he walks at a nice pace but gets distracted every 30 seconds. Covering any kind of serious distance is a struggle.  After half an hour and 300 meters we had to move on and I faced the problem of what to do with Daniel.  He rode on my shoulders for a while but that’s  a challenge since I have to hold him and still push the now heavy carriage.  And I only got two hands.

Turns out he loved to ride on top of the beers.  No complaints at all.  But all the people we meet had a puzzled look in their faces. What was this idiot doing?  Put his poor child on top of a case of beer?  Should I call children’s services or the police?  Son was happy but probably looked like a complete drunk.  We do start early and drink a lot here in Sweden, but 18 months is a touch early.

  1. I love this picture.

  2. Ha! I was at the airport recently and dropped the wife and baby off when I returned the rental car. I was bringing home a six pack of the world’s greatest beer (Bell’s Third Coast Old Ale) which fit conveniently in the car seat when I got on the rental car shuttle. Everybody peered to look at the baby and instead they saw a six-pack. This old dude was like, “now THAT’s a beautiful baby!”

    Do the Swedes love Bud?

  3. The only problem I see is that it’s Budweiser.

    Cute picture though.

  4. great picture! I once saw a family walking around with a 5-gallon jug of water in the stroller seat, and the kid underneath in the storage compartment.

Is your boy taking a beer out for you, or putting back an empty? either way, glad to see he’s helping.

  5. Nice pic, lol!

I have a few similar ones, but thMom is paranoid about our state’s dictator-like social services and doesn’t want me posting them or even printing them out. That’s a whole different conversation though. :-\

  6. LOL! Cool plates! Dont quite know about the Bud, though… I live in Norway and my Daniel is also 18 months old. Frankly.. I don’t even know if I’d have the guts to stroll around with Daniel-plates om my MB Urban. I’ll just stick to admiring yours, I think. ;) And your Daniel is really sweet, by the way!
