Did you say blogging or dogging?

How many people know what a blog is?  Or know what blogging means?  Turns out it’s not that many.  According to  a survey in UK , a large percentage of Brits have no clue what a blog is.  The survey asked taxi drivers, pub landlords, and hairdressers and the results indicate that 90 % had no idea what a podcast is and 70 % had never heard of blogging.  The survey asked these people because they are usually a good "barometer of popular trends".

More people seem to recognize the word dogging instead of blogging.  And to be honest, dogging might be more entertaining.  For those who don’t know, dogging is crowds watching exhibitionist couples have sex and sometimes join in.  All done in a semi-public place.  That sounds a lot more interesting than blogging.:-))

I occasionally ask friends if they know what a blog is and the answer is usually no.  When I give them the address to my site I refer to "my website" instead of "my blog".  Otherwise they would just be too confused.  It’s very easy to forget that that most people are not knowledgeable about internet at all.  Although blogs are very popular today, at least among some groups of people, it’s clear it will take long before it will be a  household phrase.  Why can’t every one be a geek?:-)  Now excuse me, I’m gonna go and do some dogging.emoticon

  1. Yeah, if I do venture out and tell someone I have a “blog”, it’s usually met with blank stares and crickets chirping.

  2. “Dogging”, oh my. And I thought straps were bad.

  3. So what happens if you blog about dogging?

  4. Q: “So what happens if you blog aboug dogging?”
A: Go see Jay over at The Zero Boss as I think he’s already doing this.

    [ducks and runs for cover]

  5. I get the same response as Busy Mom. Which, frankly, I don’t understand since the media talks a lot about blogs — especially during elections.

  6. I don’t tell people I have a “blog.” Everyone who knows me refers to it as “that little website.”

  7. Here in the Tiny Kingdom, I don’t even say I have a website, much less a blog. I just say I’m writing a column, but you can only read it on your computer.

When i tried to say I had a blog, I got the feeling people thought I was constipated.

  8. Busy Mom-That}s exactly the reaction I get

Weird Girl-Hey, what happened with the straps…..

Chocolate- We have agreed on starting “The Dog Blog” and make billions

MIM-I think we are overestimating people’s knowledge of the internet

Sarcastic-Good idea, I should learn from you

Anne-I’m a little surprised since here in Europe most people have access to internet and the basic education is pretty good. I do recognize the rolling eyes and faces that look like question marks when blog is mentioned.
