Daniel discovers sheep, cows, and peak of Gålå

norway-danielsheep.jpgWhat a great day we had today.  Sunny skies and around 20 degrees C.  After a large breakfast Sandra took a bath to get rid of her stiff back and the boys went out to discover the area.  There are small streams everywhere and those are hard to resist for a toddler.  But Daniel seems to have a healthy respect for water and does not jump in, but does go very close.  In the distance we can hear cow bells and we head in that direction.  Suddenly we see a group of sheep heading our way.  Daniel is excited to say the least.  The boss of the herd, with a large bell around his neck, comes right up to me and lets me stroke him.  Daniel looks at the sheep with wide open eyes and a big smile.  I set him down and he’s eager to touch the sheep.  Not really knowing much about sheep I let him carefully approach and the sheep gives Daniel some kisses on the shoulder.  Its adorable and Daniel absolutely loves it.  We hang around a bit and then move on over to some more streams and to check out the mountain bike trails.  It turns out they got the chairlift running and I ask the very nice operator some questions.  I will definitely take my bike up on the chairlift one day and perhaps also bike up to the top.  The mountain is not large, 1000 m., but the view from the top is said to be stunning.

norway-danielcows.jpgDaniel is fascinated by the chairlift and the people going up.  He can’t grasp the concept of people flying through the air.  Close to the chairlift we spot some cows and that has to be explored.  We get as close as one meter without the cows moving.  Daniel wants to go closer but I hold him back. A scared cow and a toddler doesn’t seem like a good mix.  I get some great pictures of Daniel with the cows and the sheep.  Daniel loves animals.  Especially dogs and cats but pretty much any animal is very popular. The larger the better.  After a few hours of interacting with animals we head back for food and a nap.

The afternoon adventure is a hike to the peak of Gålå.  It sounds like an easy hike so we bring our gear and go for it.  We decide to bring our super carriage, Mountain Buggy, in case Daniel gets tired and this poses some difficult challenges.  The trail is fairly easy to walk in most places but has parts of deep water, rocks, and mud. I can assure you that not many, if any, baby carriages have been on this trail. norway-carriagehike.jpg Daniel walks a lot by himself exploring the surroundings but is of course drawn to the mud and water.  A 17 month toddler does not walk fast, especially not when he’s curious on the area.  So occasionally we carry him for a while or strap him into the carriage.  The hike is only 5 km.  but if Daniel has to walk that by himself it will take the whole day.  The peak has a viewing tower and we can see 100’s of kilometers in every direction.  The way down is steep in places but water is more of a problem.  Parts are like a swamp and occasionally a foot disappears in the cold water.

We have a beer at the main building and give Daniel some more food.  They are supposed to have Wi-Fi hooked up but I still have not tried it.  If all goes well I’ll make some posts tomorrow.  If not it will have to wait a few days.  God, I miss my 10 mbit connection from home.  It’s scary how addicted I am to he internet.  We go nowhere without the laptop and try to seek out places which have Wi-Fi.  It’s becoming more common in Europe but we still lag US.

norway-sandramud.jpgDaniel falls asleep very fast after this exhausting day.  But he’s sooooo happy when he gets be outside most of the day.  After going to bed I start this book with Michael Crichton called Prey.  Damn it!  It’s an awesome book which I could finish in one night .  If you haven’t read it you’re missing something.  I don’t read much fiction any more but this is a must read.
