Monthly Update : Daniel 17 months old

Dear Daniel,

You turn 17 months today and we are sooooooooo blessed to have you with us.  Your smile and overall happiness is simply amazing.  I have never seen a toddler smile so much and cry so little.  How can you always be so happy?  Is mommy secretly giving you some wine on the side or some unknown happy pills? Is it that AdventureDad looks kind of funny (probably not far from the truth)?  Don’t take my comments as a complaint and start crying all day long.  If you continue to be this happy I will voluntarily  deposit large amounts of money into your accounts on a regular basis.  You can then spend it on beer and travel, or on your very nice and understanding parents:-)

We have now been home for a month since our last vacation.  I understand that it can’t be easy to travel to different continents on a regular basis but you handle it without complaints.  The two weeks in NYC and Hampton’s were nice and I bet the two weeks down in Mexico were even better.  Nice to run around the big yard of Maria Helena and Dean.  Your fall into the cold pool was a bit of a shocker to mommy and me but it all worked out well.  It was a horrible feeling to see you disappear under the surface while you were still looking at me. Please don’t do that again.   Also nice to see mommy’s family again in Mexico and get spoiled by Lupita.  As you grow older you must learn how to make mommy plan better.  I bet you were also a bit pissed when she arrived too late and missed your flight back to Stockholm.  But your smile and mommy’s crying saved the situation.  I told your from the very beginning that having a Mexican mother would be an adventure.  And you haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

Danielwalking.jpgYou have made much progress this month.  Your walking has improved tremendously but we still need to work on the stairs.  Another fall down those cement stairs with your head first and you might get into trouble.  Your running style so far looks hilarious.  You look like Phoebe in that episode of Friends where she’s running around Central Park with Rachel.  You’re also much more independent than before.  You play like a champion with the other kids and willingly, well at least most of the time, share your toys with everyone.  You’re eating by yourself, although that still need lots of work.  Thank God we have wood floors that are easy to clean.

It’s lovely to have you up here at the summerhouse.  Last year you were only four months during our stay but it seems like last week.  This year your tearing up daddy’s old toys and have a blast with the fish in the lake.  It was incredible to see you in that robe last night.  The bathrobe that your grandpa wore when he was two years old.  That was 66 years ago!!!!  There are no problems understanding what your desire is but your vocabulary is still somewhat limited.   Lots and lots of new words.  But in your own language, whatever that is.  It can’t be easy to learn three languages at once but we are sure you will eventually make it.  So far "mamma" and "hola" seem to be your favorites. I’m still patiently waiting for a proper "daddy".

Water seems to be one of your favorite items.  No not swimming.  You’re just like your mother, don’t like cold water. No swimming unless it’s steaming hot.  But playing in water seems to be the best thing in the world.  Water on the street, bird bath, rain meter, or cups of water.  Whatever has water gets your attention.  So far no accidents at the lake.  I think of you drowning quite often.  And it’s always because someone forgot to monitor you properly.  I know I shouldn’t think of this but I can’t help it.  You are just he cutest, nicest, sweetest toddler in the world.  I thank God every day for letting me be a part of your life.

Love Daddy
