Confessions From A Clueless Father

 Clueless father in action

After a normal delivery here in Sweden everyone leaves the hospital relatively quickly but with full support of the fantastic child health care system.  Doctor appointments are booked, vaccines scheduled, and all parents can go home and enjoy their new little bundle of love.  But there is one thing they don't teach parents, or I should perhaps say fathers.  It's an important issue that will sooner or later face every father who has more than one child.  How to carry two children at once.  I know you're laughing but it's clear that I'm absolutely clueless in this area.  I never thought of this before Annika was born.  And I certainly never imagined I would struggle with such a seemingly easy task.

As you can see in the photos I have no clue what the hell I'm doing.  It's really embarrassing.  I look like I have a sack of potatoes in one arm and a bag of chips in the other.  And I was still trying to concentrate. Daniel is handling the arrival of his sister really well but when I carry Annika around he wants me to carry him as well.  Well, that's easier said than done. The weight of just over 20 kilos is no problem but the infant complicates the situation.  Daniel considers it fun when I throw him over my shoulder while Annika will break her neck if I do the same to her.  She's very strong for her age but  her neck still needs to be supported.  And it's obvious I don't know how to do that.  And here I was thinking to myself what a great job I'm doing as a father of two kids:-))  Poor children….  Where do I sign up for the desperate-father-carrying-two-children-at-once classes?  I can't wait until Annika is old enough to just throw her over my shoulder.

Have a nice week!

  1. I suggest you make the older kid walk more. He might want to always ride, and he thinks you won’t say no, but he’ll have to get used to putting those legs to work. You’re gonna get hurt, or one of the kids is, if you have a bobbling problem or kids not staying still while you try to carry both.
