Camera + Toilet + Pee =???
We're back from a great one week vacation on the Swedish island of Gotland. It was a relaxing week with only a couple of events out of the ordinary. First, what do you do when dropping camera in a toilet full of pee? Second, who is the calm one in your family when, let's just say, your daughter falls out of a high bed on hardwood floor at 3 am?
As me and my son had finished peeing on the large ferry, I picked up the camera which was laying on top of the paper. We were in a hurry and just before flushing the camera dropped into the toilet. Quick decision, what should I do? Dip my hand in the dirty toilet and attempt to save the camera or just leave it? Easy decision. I'm not afraid of a little pee, I quickly reached down, scooped up the camera, and rushed over to rinse its cover in the sink.
My wife has bacteria phobia, like all Latins, and I'm not sure what she would have done. I waited two whole days before telling her about the incident. Mainly to make sure the camera was still working despite getting a bit wet but also to properly dry the cover and not freak wife out. She would probably not ever have touched the camera again after seeing that pee soaked cover.
I was deep asleep dreaming about Halle Berry my family at 3 am as a loud "Booom" suddenly filled the bedroom. At first I didn't realize what had happened but wife was already flapping. A few seconds passed and I vaguely remembered picking our crying daughter out of the crib and into our bed. We're trying to wean Annika off breast-feeding, and occasionally she spends a little time with us in the bed.
The key is to keep Annika away from the wife at all cost which sometimes puts her in weird areas of the bed. If she gets one look at her mother during the night, she wants nothing but milk filled boobies.
I quickly checked on our crying screaming daughter, everything looked fine. Wife was flapping like a salmon on land and had left the room to avoid crying in front of our daughter. I was in calm autopilot mode and not nervous at all. This is how things usually happen in our household. Wife is flapping while I remain calm.
Since I work in the most stressful job imaginable in the financial markets, I've seen lots of panic over the years. And trust me, there is nothing like panic involving money. Good thing is my job has taught me to remain calm, which often comes in handy with two young children.
Wife finally calmed down but it took hours for her to get back to sleep. Me and my daughter both fell asleep quickly and she woke up just fine the next morning. She might be naggy and high maintenance but she's excellent at falling without hurting herself:-)
Who's the calm one in your family? And are you afraid of a little pee?:-))

I think I have this a couple times already the pee…. my son puts wierd things into his potty every other morning its a challenge not to get his hands in there himself…. esp… when you are a zombie urself sitting on ur potty and bonding with ur son every morning… I think I shared more than I should have…. just dont tell the wife :D or put the camera on Ebay and I hope its not the Canon 20D? SLR?
The camera actually survived its adventure in the pee pond? Now that would be amazing! :D
SIGH! In that situation,I’d probably would have to save the camera as well, especially if its Chhimi’s Canon! If its a disposable camera, then its Good-bye!!
As for the calm partner, oh boy, we are both struggling with it and trying to get better at it. When it comes to Erik, we are on high alert and last time when Mommy and Erik fell down the stairs together, it was panic/worry/stress in the “Ma Family” household for the longest time.
But like I said, we’re learning as first-time parents and trying to remain calmer in situations and not to intensify each other’s panic. The thing is Erik bounces back a lot faster then we do in those situations! Thank Goodness, I guess he’s the calm one LOL!
