Beyond Cruel - Baby Left To Die

Beyond Cruel - Baby Left To Die

WARNING! GRAPHICAL AND DISTURBING!    After seeing how some parents treat their kids I wonder why they ever bothered.  I'm genuinely interested in learning how these people think.  What goes through their minds?  How do they reason and make decisions?  What could possibly make them treat a child so unbelievably bad?  How is it humanly possible to be this cruel?

I'm referring to the parents of 5-month old Benjamin Sargent who was left to die.  He was left in his car seat, strapped in and wearing a  bright blue snow-suit, for 8 days without food and water.  8 freaking days!

Benjamin Sargent died with his eyes open, fists clenched and strapped into a car seat after eight days without food or water, the county's top prosecutor said Wednesday.

"He died from starvation due to neglect from these two defendants, his parents,"

Benjamin sat for eight days, most of which both Hermann and Sargent were home, "playing video games, watching TV, feeding and caring for themselves,"

Lyons said police found the infant sitting in his own waste, all the while strapped into the seat which was in a crib.
This is so disgusting and disturbing it's difficult to comprehend.  How can anyone leave and infant for 8 straight days without food and water in a car seat? I find two things remarkable.  First, the couple apparently show no signs of mental illness.  Second, they already had a 3-year old daughter.

The parents are charged with murder and the prosecutor might seek the death penalty.  If so I'll volunteer to pull the switch myself.  With a smile on my face.

  1. This is horrible. How could any two people (using that term lightly) be so neglectful to thier own offspring. Makes me want to vomit.

  2. This absolutely brought tears to my eyes! I feel so sad for the baby that had to go through his last days in that horrible state! Nobody deserves to pass like that, especially a baby!! I also feel bad for the 3 year old that will have to remember this incident, the passing of her little brother because of her parents’ cruelty. The so-called parents truly deserve the harshest sentence especially when the mother showed no remorse but annoyance at the court process!! Disgusting!

  3. These “parents” deserve to be tied to a chair and left alone until they die.

  4. There are no words to adequately describe my reaction to this story and there is not punishment severe enough for the “people” who killed this baby.

  5. That made me cry. I just read two lines of that and I balled. So of course, I had to read the article. And I cried some more. I agree with Steve that there is not punishment just enough.

  6. Oh, God. These things just break my heart. We had something similar happen not 20 minutes from where I live and it just kills me, because if I had only known I would have gone over and volunteered to take care of the baby myself! I think ANYONE would. The only thing that helps me is remembering these babies are in heaven and their suffering is over.

  7. I am familiar with the baby Benjamin case. When I first read it, it was hard for my mind to comprehend such a cruel and heinous crime…more so to an innocent baby. I cried and had many a sleepless night. I am a mother of two beautiful boys, one who is now 7 months. I just keep thinking how this poor baby died alone, terrified and in pain. He probably had no real happiness in his short life. His so called “parents” tortured him to death. My opinion is give them the same terrible punishment. They should die in the same manner baby Benjamin did. Alone, terrified and starving for food and drink. To HELL with them.
