Another Great Parenting Ad

 Durex.jpg

I enjoy the occasional ad if it's clever and humorous.  And especially if it involves children or parenthood.  A while back I posted the hilarious Ikea ad/clip involving a kid with a sex toy.  And in December I posted a photo of my favorite Christmas card.  Above you see the latest condom ad by Durex.  I love it.  Simple, discrete, and  witty.  It still doesn't make me go out and buy condoms.  I never liked them much, it's like showering with your clothes on.  But the ad is damn good.

Talking about condoms seems to be taboo in many countries but I'm not embarrassed.  If more used them we wouldn't have such huge problems with AIDS and other sexual diseases.  What's your feeling about condoms?  Good, great,  or can't stand them?

  1. It’s a good ad.
    About condoms…
I’m not embarassed to talk about them. But I hate wearing the things. If I was single today and playing the field, I’d wear them religiously. But since I’m monogomous, and my wife doesn’t like them either, I never use them.

I’ve got two boys. Can’t wait for the condom conversation…

  2. I agree with you- talking about condoms should not be taboo. I personally don’t like them (been with my hubby 9 years and we don’t use them) but I think that when you are not in a monogamous relationship they are your best friend. There are a lot worse things to worry about than pregnancy.

  3. I am a huge fan of condoms in general, but have never been all that thrilled to use them… but always did until I was married.

Besides the obvious benefits you mentioned, if I can risk the ire of the social conservatives… if they want teen pregnancies and abortions to go down, PROMOTING and not discouraging condom use would be a really good (and smart) idea.

  4. Well, in my asian family, this would be one of MANY taboo subjects that one should not talk about! Seriously, I wish more parents would be open about this-type of communication and not be “ashamed” of it. I can’t even recall my parents sitting down with me about “the birds and the bees”. It was pretty much IGNORED! Sigh!

So I pretty much made sure my very young cousin (of 13 or 14 years old back then) got a good discussion/lecture from me! Hahahaha! It was uncomfortable for her but at the same time she also said “I wish we had these discussions at home…just talk…you know..openly”. That’s my strategy with Erik too. :o) hee hee

  5. I agree, great ad. I love when it takes just a few words to be clever as well.

I’ll concur with the above. Hate ‘em as well and glad I’m in a long term relationship at this point.

  6. Yeah, I’ve got to join in on the “hate to use them” crowd, but Keen and I have been together 16 years. If I was single I’d be stocking up (…I’m not really a slut, I just play one on TV). Plus, they make good slingshots.

  7. Cute ad! Condoms? HATE THEM!
    However…………they DO sometimes….
ummm ya know…..extend play time! =o)
