A severe case of Pappitis

I’m back!  Well, not completely.  I’m still limping like a 115 year old man but at least I’m off the crutches and the pain has decreased significantly.  I’m even back at the gym which is a great feeling.  More on this unfortunate incident at some later point.

Daniel has been severely infected by the  "Pappitis" virus the past month or two.  This virus is also known as the "Daddy virus" which causes a very strong preference for daddy. Mommy has no power and most she says is met with protest by Daniel.  As contrast, Daddy’s every word is obeyed.  It’s kind of like being a Daddy with huge boobies.  During Daniels first six months or so he was naturally very attached to Foxy Wife.  Up until then I had only taken a few weeks of parental leave so my time spent with the little one could not compare to mommy.    When he cried or hit himself mommy was the natural choice.  Same thing in the evenings.  Sandra breastfed him and put him to sleep and if he woke up during the night he wanted to be comforted by her.   I felt a bit useless during this time but it all changed after my periods of parental leave.  During three months I spent day and night with him and that is paying off now.

sthlm-danielsandbox2.jpgMe and Daniel normally have a great relation but lately it has been almost too much of a good thing.  He now wants Daddy and nothing else.  We have had a few periods of Pappitis but none as long as this one.  And he usually has interesting timing for his Pappitis.  The last time it happened I was also in severe pain.  I hurt my knee and could barely walk.  We were going on a vacation to NYC and he wanted nothing but Daddy.  So there I was on the flight, dragging my foot behind me in the aircraft aisle as I was holding Daniel’s hand exploring the whole cabin.  As any parent of a small child knows, after they start walking they can’t sit still. It took about one hour and then my back went out.  So not only could I barely walk, I was now also  tilting sideways at a 30 degree angle.  What was Foxy Wife doing?  Since Daniel did not want to be with her she was having some nice wine and reading a book.  And of course laughing her ass off.

And now he wants to do the exact opposite of what Foxy Wife says but obeys Daddy’s every word.  It’s a weird feeling but I’m gonna enjoy it while it lasts.  Any chance this will continue in his teenage years?  Sandra says change diapers, Daniel says "No".  Daddy steps in and diapers are changed with a smile.  Mommy says eat lunch and Daniel says "No".  Daddy sits down and he eats like a horse.  Mommy tries to put him to sleep with some välling and a book while Daddy relaxes.  After a few minutes he comes running out of the room shouting "Pappa, pappa".  I go into his bedroom and he’s asleep in five minutes.  You get the point.  Of course we know that this stage is temporary and has nothing to do with Foxy Wife’s skills as a mother.  She has so far been doing a freaking outstanding unbelievable job with our son.

I wish I could put this feeling in a package. It’s an amazing feeling of accomplishment and unconditional love.   If you’re lucky  Santa might give this gift to you once in your life.  It’s the best gift you can receive.  I promise.

  1. Glad to hear that the ankle’s doing better, AD. As for Pappitis, wouldn’t it be great if everyone (and not just Daniel) suffered from the same affliction..at least for a day or two?

  2. Mate glad to hear you’re ok. Ahh the good old daddy virus. My Girl had it for a while. Then she ran away screaming when I got home………now she has it again……which is much better than the screaming!

  3. […] do with the way I’m trying to raise him though.  That’s is because of his Pappitis.  But Sandra has mentioned this Horse Whisperer appr […]
