A Different Thanksgiving

Hope you had an excellent Thanksgiving.  I sure did, although it was a bit different.  My Thursday was spent at work.  this may sound bad but it's a actually really nice.  We don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here but at work we do need to cover for our NYC branch who is closed.  This happens a few times a year and I'm usually a volunteer for working until 11 pm.  It's great for me and gives me some extra time with my son.

On Thursday, when I need to work until 11 pm, I came into the office at 3 pm.  Wife went to the gym at 06.30 and I went at 7.30 am.  Great start of the day.  Then I joined Daniel at day-care to see how things were going.  Our school encourages parents to spend time at school to see what activities goes on and how their child interacts with others. Unfortunately, there are many parents who never visit their kid at school. I think it's a great idea, both me and Sandra participate about once a month.  It's nice to chat with the teachers, get to know them better, and see what goes on.  I followed on a little excursion with a short boat ride and some snacks before going back and having lunch with all the kids. We left school after lunch and spent a few hours at home before I headed to work.

Going to work on Thanksgiving night may sound terrible but it's actually great.  Normally nothing happens and I spend the evening doing close to nothing unless the market explode.  My PC has TV software and I also brought the laptop to brush up on  some old episodes of 24 and catch a DVD or two.  Dinner is taken care of by the company so I had a nice compilation of various sushi items. There were some wine and beer available so I had a bottle and a half of wine and a couple of beers before the night was over. That's the good thing with being in an empty office.   Afterwards I went to a restaurant to have drinks with one of my brokers who had flown in from UK.  We had a great time and lots of drinks before the night was over.  In addition to hanging out at work drinking, coming in at 3 pm, watching TV and DVD, having nice dinner, and being almost alone a the office the late hours has another benefit.  I get another day of vacation.  I took Daniel to school on Friday and hung out at home for a while before joining him again at school after lunch to take part of the afternoon activities.  Grandpa joined us an hour later and we played like crazy with the kids.  It was a nice ending to a great week.  We were both equally popular among all the kids and they spent  tons of time riding on our shoulders.

It was not a traditional Thanksgiving but I can think of few things better than spending time with my son and getting some extra vacation.

  1. Love the day at work!

I spent thanksgiving working from home to watch the NFL! We celebrate thanksgiving but 2/3 weeks in advance…why? no clue!

  2. What a cool thanksgiving day! Starting at 630 at the gym is not my cup of tea … but everything else sounds just about perfect.

  3. You know, i know we’ve had this conversation before, but can you tell me if your TV software has a Show called Related that was on last season? If so, what’s the web address of that software. I’ve wanted to find that one show, but I can’t seem to in the ones I’ve looked at….and I’m not willing to pay for any unless they have that stored in there.

Oh and AD, you are a great dad. A lot of times, dads still aren’t involved in their kids lives and definetly not the day to day stuff. It’s great for your kids that you are.
